Gardener for a Day

The award-winning Zoological gardens at Chester Zoo are justifiably famous and provide a spectacular setting for the UK's most popular wildlife attraction.

The Zoo covers over 110 acres and for garden enthusiasts, this offers a host of fascinating themed areas and some truly exotic planting.  For people who want to find out what it is like to work in these glorious gardens, Chester Zoo offers the ideal solution - join us and be a Gardener for a Day.  Or why not treat a green-fingered friend to the perfect gardening gift.

This exciting day will involve working alongside the Zoo's qualified, highly experienced and enthusiastic horticulturalists.  You will spend half the day with the "outside" team including time in one of the animal houses.  In the afternoon you will spend time in the Nursery caring for our specialist collections of tender plants.

Your special day will start at 8.30am and finish at 4.30pm.  It will be on a Wednesday and the scheme runs from April to October.  Your specific date will be arranged by phone.

Tea breaks and lunch are included and you will receive a signed certificate and a surprise gift as a permanent momento of your day.

You may bring one guest at no extra charge, but the guest will not be working alongside you and can only enter the Zoo after 10.00am.  All funds raised through the scheme support Chester Zoo's extensive work on conservation programmes both in the Zoo and overseas.  The Zoo currently supports projects in over 100 countries.

If you would like to take part in this unique experience please fill in the application form and return it to us.  It would assist us greatly in planning your day if you could state your preferences for the groups of plants you would like to work with.

Please enclose a cheque for £99.00 made payable to Chester Zoo with your application form.
