Wildest Wishes, if you could wish for anything

Wildest Wishes is our new gift range and is perfect for people who care about wildlife. From an ‘elephant pedicure’ to ‘a purrrfect gift for cat lovers’ you can buy a gift for your friends, your family and even yourself. Of course we don’t actually send you an elephant, you’ll get a gift card to give to the recipient and a warm glow from the knowledge that your gift is helping to save animals and plants from extinction.

Money raised from Wildest Wishes will go towards supporting conservation, education and outreach work of the North of England Zoological Society at home and abroad.

£15 can help buy chilli seeds for a struggling Assamese family. Chillies are a small plant with huge benefits. Dried, crushed and then burnt to create a pungent smoke, they are used by Assamese people to deter elephants who may otherwise trample their crops and villages. Chillies can also be used to curry favour with struggling villagers by providing an alternative crop and therefore a new source of income. Your gift will help the villagers and the elephants to live in harmony.

Have you got the bottle to help? Sometimes it’s a tall order for inexperienced mother giraffes to feed their babies. When this happens, our dedicated keepers have to hand rear the youngsters, feeding up to six times a day with as much as nine litres of creamy gold top milk. Hand feeding continues for 11 months, until the baby is weaned. Help make sure those big babies get what they need.

Girls love nothing more than a little pampering and what’s better than a pedicure to make your feet feel good. It’s just the same for elephants, for whom foot care is an essential part of their weekly routine. Keepers clean, check and treat any foot problems within the large herd at Chester, helping to keep the ladies in tip top condition.
