We’re holding our third annual Summer Stampede on Sunday 11 August 2019 and we’d love to have you on the team.
Join us in the fight against EEHV and raise funds for our Never Forget campaign by doing a sponsored walk with your favourite herd of people. You can join us here in Chester for the Summer Stampede or – for the very first time – you can join in wherever you are.

Why is the Summer Stampede so important to us?
The last twelve months have seen some ups and downs for the Hi Way herd here at Chester Zoo. In October 2018 we lost two much-loved calves to EEHV, and Nandita and Aayu are still very much missed. In March, we were all terribly upset to learn that Indali had tested positive for EEHV but thanks to our increased knowledge of the virus and the pioneering treatments carried out by our conservationists, Indali is still with us today.
EEHV is a devastating virus that affects Asian elephants worldwide, and we are determined to stamp it out for good. Thanks to our amazing donors, we’ve been able to find out much more about this terrible disease, but now the time has come to push forward and build on our knowledge to start developing more effective treatments and, even better, a preventative vaccine that will protect the Hi Way herd and Asian elephants around the globe.
Your fundraising will help us move closer to a time when baby elephants no longer have the threat of EEHV hanging over their heads. 100% of your donations will be put towards our vital work of combatting this devastating disease.

At the zoo
If you’re near to Chester, why not come down to the zoo before we open to the public and join in our organised walk? There’ll be a talk and a warm-up with our zoo rangers, a chance to chat with the elephant team, and prizes to win! Participants can expect goodies to take away on the day and entry to the zoo all day.

In the field
If you ‘re too far away, there’s still lots of ways you can get involved.
Not everyone can get to Chester Zoo on 11 August, but you can still take part and help us fight EEHV! We’re asking people up and down the country to go on their own sponsored walk and to tag us throughout the day on social media. Once your fundraising is underway, we can send you a pack filled with elephant goodies so you can stampede away wherever you are and make a difference to elephant calves all over the world.

- Choose a walk you’ve been meaning to do for a while
- Set up a JustGiving page. Click here to get started!
- Get fundraising! Once your page reaches £20 you’ll be eligible to receive our special Summer Stampede Activity Pack containing hats, stickers, bookmarks and activities.
- On Sunday 11 August, do your walk. Don’t forget to take a picture and share it with us on social media! Remember to tag us with #SummerStampede @chesterzoo #NeverForget @ActForWildlife
