Wildlife Connections outreach project
What to expect
This in school workshop is all about connecting the students to nature. They will learn important terminology such as native, endangered, hibernation, etc. After learning about the variety of native animals and plants, the rest of the session is spent outdoors exploring and identifying the wildlife around their school.
The second in school workshop is about the damage that is happening to our native habitats and the negative impact it is having on wildlife. They will learn through interactive play how habitat destruction is directly linked to the endangerment of many of our native species. To finish we will talk about the amazing projects that Chester Zoo are involved with to conserve our native wildlife.
The last in school workshop is aimed at encouraging the students to take action against these issues themselves. It talks about all the things they can do in their playground or in their garden to improve the conservation of UK species. They then take part in tackling pollution during the session by doing a litter pick in the school grounds. We then discuss the consequences of littering relating to wildlife.
During your school trip to the zoo you will meet with one of our team for a short session with an activity and tour around our animal habitats to see the animals that are native to the UK and recap some of things we learnt.
The delivery offer includes:
- A virtual Kickstarter meeting to introduce the school staff to the project, additional FREE learning resources that we have on offer, and ideas for how the teachers can make this a cross-curricular project for all year groups.
- 3 Conservation Educator led interactive workshops in the school setting for each class
- Free entrance for participating classes to Chester Zoo including teaching and activities led by the education team.
This project offer is aimed at KS2 but can be adapted to a slightly higher or lower Key Stage on request.
