From the tall to the tiny, the massive to the miniscule, we have all shapes and sizes here at the zoo!
Using examples from the Chester Zoo animal collection, join us as we explore how the environment helps to shape what animals look like and how they behave. Following in Darwin’s footsteps, we’ll examine the process of evolution through natural selection and how this leads to some weird and wonderful adaptations in the Animal Kingdom!
Your students will then apply their knowledge to predict which adaptations give a selective advantage in different habitats – time to let their imagination run wild!
Age group: Key Stage 3
Duration: 50 minutes

Science:
- Genetics and evolution Inheritance, chromosomes, DNA and genes
- heredity as the process by which genetic information is transmitted from one generation to the next
- differences between species
- the variation between species and between individuals of the same species meaning some organisms compete more successfully, which can drive natural selection
