
QGIS for Conservationists
The course is designed for complete beginners to using GIS software and will include hands on practice with the software and a chance to test out your skills with data collected in the field.
Over the two days we will introduce you to the follow aspects of QGIS.
- What is GIS?
- The basics of using the QGIS interface
- Vector & raster layers and how to view them
- Drawing points, lines and polygons
- Viewing and editing attribute tables
- Mapping simple biological records and habitat data
- Conservation case studies
Alongside the QGIS content we will also bring in some of our experts from our Conservation and Science teams to demonstrate how we use GIS to underpin our projects from pangolins to elephants!
Please note: Due to the nature of this course, there are limited spaces available. You will need to have basic IT skills linked to opening, downloading, saving and locating files to attend this course.
This course includes significant computer usage, and therefore you will need to have a laptop with QGIS pre-installed, QGIS is free to download and you will be sent instructions on how to do this ahead of the session.
