The Sunken Garden
Tucked away in the corner of Chester Zoo is our beautiful Sunken Garden
This peaceful space is almost hidden away from the rest of the zoo, making you feel like you’ve stumbled into your own secret garden.
Spend as much time as you need to take in the soothing sounds of the water features and the many different species of plants that surround you – from the large oak and beech trees to the stunning snowdrops.
The Sunken Garden is a perfect place to relax and feel inspired; we recommend that you visit at different times throughout the year to see this space transform with each season.
Our award-winning gardens are home to...

Over 120 species of pitcher plants
These incredible plants are kept in special conditions at the zoo.
Over 1,400 orchids
We look after more than 1,500 orchids originating from South America.
