This activity allows children to apply basic Key Stage 1 maths concepts like counting, addition, and subtraction while learning about elephants at the zoo.

Pupils are encouraged to count how many elephants they see, identify the tallest and shortest elephants, and calculate how many toes an elephant has. They also explore questions like how many times an elephant might poo in a day and how much water an elephant's trunk can hold, making maths both practical and exciting.

The resource encourages children to think critically while solving problems related to real-world scenarios involving elephants. It also provides opportunities for students to work together, sharing their answers with classmates and discussing their findings. This hands-on approach to maths makes the subject engaging while teaching about wildlife and conservation.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Practise counting, addition, and subtraction using real-world examples.

  • Understand how to compare measurements like height and weight.

  • Engage in problem-solving activities based on elephant facts.
