This how to guide is designed to teach learners about exploring coastal rock pools to discover and identify marine life.

This resource gives steps for safely catching and observing small fish, such as blennies and gobies, that inhabit rock pools. It covers the equipment needed, like buckets, magnifiers, and identification guides.  It also encourages sustainable practices like careful handling and releasing fish back into their environment to minimise stress. Students are also encouraged to report any rare finds to wildlife charities, contributing to marine conservation efforts.

This hands-on activity fosters an appreciation for marine biodiversity and highlights the importance of preserving marine habitats. It's a perfect way for students to engage with nature while learning about the delicate ecosystems of the UK's rocky shorelines. The resource also includes safety tips and instructions for handling fish carefully to avoid causing harm.
